This morning hubby & I were talking when he got home from work when he asked me how much our "usual" cable bill was supposed to be. I said just under $240.00 for cable, Internet, cell & home phone. Then added my "whyyyyy"!? Well, this month the bill totaled $263.49! *Ugh!!*
This is WAY too much for what we're getting & we simply can't afford to pay this much for these services every month. So hubby suggested that I cancel his sports pkg which we're paying $38.00 for since he rarely gets to watch it, along with the NHL network since there's well, no hockey season. lol! We also got charged $9.00 for renting the Avengers movie that was supposed to be *free* as we had 2 move credits. Along with this, we bundle all of our services with Rogers so we're supposed to get a discount on all our services. Well since our cable contract was up they just decided to discontinue our discount & bill us the maximum amount for everything!!
I called ROGERS & asked them to cancel our sports pkg, cancel our NHL channel, and inquired as to when I could cancel our internet as we're paying just under $70 for 150GB because my son uses a LOT of bandwidth & wanted to switch companies.
I guess they don't want you to cancel services with them as he asked me to hold for a few minutes & did the following:
- Cancelled our sports pkg
- Cancelled our NHL pkg
- Gave us a 2nd phone line & a 1200 min. evenings/weekends long distance pkg
- Doubled our Internet to 300GB which is 50GB *more* than their top of the line $122.99 pkg!
- Installed a new phone modem
- Refunded our movie fee
- Dropped our bill to $176.87 a month after taxes! Saving us $86.62 a month!
This is MUCH better & gives us a bit more freedom with our budget! I'll ave to redo our budget for next month, but at least it's to free up some money & not pay more!
Are you noticing major inflation in your cable/Internet/cell phone bills? Have you dropped any services to save money?

On another note... hubby is interested in Netflix but heard that Netflix.ca is nothing to get excited over, but sagas heard that Netflix.com (American version) is awesome. If we rent one HD movie a month, it costs us $9.00. Whereas Netflix is $7.99/month and you can watch unlimited movies, tv shows, etc... So he figures that it's a more affordable way to watch more movies while still keeping our bill on the lower side!
Does anyone know if we can get Netflix.com in Canada & if you have/use Netflix, do you enjoy it?
