Five Things Friday!

Today has been a full & busy day! It's a good day for "Five Things Friday" though, so let's go!

1. Sewing! My customs are very full right now which means that I'm putting in a lot of sewing hours lately! Today I completed two custom orders with a total of 3 items - so I definitely put in a "full day" and am now going to rest for a while as my wrists are feeling my work! I completed 2 ruffled wristlets today with card slots, (which are on sale on my page if anyone is interested!) and a NCW (Necessary Clutch Wallet) for another custom. Now my weekend is "free" for my own personal sewing WIPs! Which are numerous...

2. A new APP! I found a new APP which is encouraging me to reach a new (and slightly over the top) savings goal I have for the year! It's free and is called "Money Box", it's for the iPhone/iPod but I just downloaded it for my iPad and use it on here. We're on a new budget so we can reach this savings goal in about 2 years time. It's going to be a stretch and a long'ish goal to reach, so I'm really going to have to watch our budget and think twice before I purchase anything. I have set new 'gift' limits for birthdays, Christmas, etc... And hope to make & give more handmade gifts as well!

3. Movies Galore! SO many new movies are coming out that I want to see in the next few months!! I've been saving up my Scene Points like crazy and have 6 free admissions so far... I'm going to continue saving and use them to see some of the new movies that are coming out! Some that look good and I've marked to see at the theatres, the one I'm most excited about is "Bridget Jones's Baby", *Link will open in YouTube - then I want to see "Alice Through the Looking Glass", "BeetleJuice 2" (not sure when it comes out but it's in progress!), "Fantastical Beasts and Where to Find Them", and "Pets" I want to see with the kids, it's a PIXAR animated movie and looks hilarious!!

4. Swap Update: I have another swap pkg complete & ready to go to its new home in Australia! I will share more photos soon!! I now have just one swap left to complete and get in the mail! Yay me!!

5. A tutorial! I will soon have a tutorial up for a scissor pouch I designed for my besties birthday! I need to fix a few things that my testers caught for me, and then I'll get it up for everyone to try! It's a great pouch to keep your scissors away from little hands or hands which would use precious fabric scissors to cut paper with... *GASP*

Enjoy your Friday!

Mya's 9th birthday...

Ok... Some of you miss me and miss my 'regular' posting, which is nice to hear. Thank-you for that! :)
I have decided that I will start to share a bit more of my 'life', over & beyond sewing, and will see how it goes. However, I swear, if someone wants to call my kids something nasty, or tell me what a horrible person I am, at least have the decency to leave your real name and a valid email so you can receive the reply you deserve. It's only fair right?? If not, please don't bother - I have absolutely no time or patience for catty, bitter women.
Moving forward... Miss Mya just turned 9 which is kind of bittersweet... But she assures me that she's still my 'kitten', as you can see in the first photo. She tells everyone her name is "whiskers" and that she's a kitten. It's funny... Odd. ;)

Mya is obsessed with Barbies along with cats, so her gifts from everyone consisted of mostly Barbie items! She was SOO excited & happy with her gifts! From family she received 3 new Barbies, a new Barbie "Rock n' Royals" stage type thing and some smaller accessories Barbie needed: A laptop, housecleaning supplies, a phone, etc.. These are itty bitty Barbie items, and really adorable! I found a bunch on Amazon.ca and they took quite a while to get here as they came from China or something.. (Of course) lol!

This Barbie "DreamHouse" however was the icing on the cake for her... I literally debated for months & months on whether to get this, she asked me a couple times for it but figured she wouldn't receive it as it is quite pricey. When it went on sale for $70 off the original price of $230.00, I caved and ordered it for her. This was the biggest chunk of her gift from us and she was thrilled! She has been playing with it non-stop over the last couple of days and I can see her playing with this for years ahead...

And this is absolutely hilarious in my opinion, although not everyone will think so. A cat litter cake that child #2 made for her! She LOVED it and said it was the BEST CAKE in her WHOLE life!! LOL!! The litter scoop by the way is BRAND NEW and washed. She was so happy, it was hilarious!!

We changed the recipe a bit and used crumbled chips ahoy cookies for the "litter", the "droppings" was icing squeezed out of a baggie and froze to hold the shape, then a vanilla cake & chocolate icing.

Mya being a "kitten" again... LOL!! Her hands are really "paws" you know?

And for her "birthday finale" I took them to see "The Buddy Holly Story" which was bar none one of the BEST shows that I've ever seen at the Grand!! I ended up buying the cheapest seats I could find as I had just spent a small fortune to take them to see "Sleeping Beauty J├Ârgen Ballet" not too long ago, and these seats were our favourite yet!! I think I will be trying for these seats from here on in! Who knew!?

After the show Zachary Stevenson (the actor/singer) who plays Buddy Holly was in the foyer to meet everyone and sign his Cd's. I let the girls each get one as they LOVED the show, especially Maria! She said that it's her favourite show she's seen so far!

When Mya went up to meet Zachary he asked her for her name, she stares at him deadpan and says, "Whiskers the kitten". ROTFL!! He kinda looked at us then "pardon?". We quickly corrected her, but it was hilarious... That kid I tell ya! Never a dull moment! ;) He signed her CD with a "Happy Birthday Mya".

It's been a busy month as Maria's birthday was earlier in April as well, but it's been a fun month!

Well I hope you've enjoyed this little update, it's late and I need to finish up a few things so I'm going to wrap this up... Hand stitching, laundry, tidying up, etc... My normal and very unglamorous life that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world! Enjoy your night!

WIP Wednesday!

Good Morning! It's time for WIP Wednesday with The Needle & Thread Network! Once again, I have lots going on sewing-wise! Let's begin!!

The other day I received a message from Kelly Panacci - a designer for Riley Blake Designs asking me if I'd like to play with some of her fabrics from her two lines, "Tree Party" & "Happy Flappers". Well, when a designer asks you to play with her gorgeous fabric lines made for Riley Blake (LOVE Riley Blake Designs!!) you say "Yes please!!", and that's just what I did! She very generously sent me a big stack of fun fabrics to play with!!

Yesterday was a busy day with it being Mya's Birthday (post coming up later on today!) and I really didn't have much free time at all as I had promised Mya "it's all about you today!", but I did sneak in a little bit of time after dinner before we went out to make a few little adorable 3/4" hexies! These little owls are SOO sweet! Eep!!

****
I'm not sure what these are going to become, but something small & cute anyways! I do have an idea on what project I'll be starting on next! There are so many fun, adorable prints in these lines that I can't wait to cut into them all!

Then I have this beautiful hexie flower made with Sevenberry fabrics waiting for some love... I've matched up these Perle cottons and am leaning towards using the yellow with it I think... What's your choice?

*****

****

I received a pearl snap order from Etsy the other day for my business card holders and love the variety she sent me! They came so quickly and the assortment is lovely!! So many Etsy sellers charged close to $20 to ship a *small* amount of Pearl snaps like these, but CowgirlSnaps rates all around are VERY reasonable! I've found my new "Pearl snap dealer"!

Now for a few complete projects! Yay! LOL!!! These are all custom orders....

1. An organic Cloud9 patchwork NCW! These lovely fabrics have been in my stash waiting for some love, I think they looks so soft & feminine on this! Love it!

2. A ruffled wristlet with a matching coin zippy! This custom order originally started out with a "safe" grey fabric and linen... But after her seeing all my recent bright & fun designs she gave me free reign to create anything I wanted! Which is always fun, but nerve wracking sometimes as I wasn't sure if I went "too bright". However, she absolutely loved it which makes me so happy!! This set is made with some gorgeous Tula Pink fabrics from Fabric Please and my favourite Mochi Dot linen by MODA from Mad About Patchwork!

3. Another NCW.... This time with some lovely royal blue & teal Camelot fabrics paired with my favourite Essex Linen.

And for my WIP's.... They are plenty!!

I'm still working away at "The New Hexagon", this is block 14 out of 52 in total.

Still on my list...

  • Quilt for Mya
  • Quilt for child #2
  • Gift for next month! Eep! I need to hurry up with this one or I'm toast! LOL!!
  • Blocks for "New Hexagon" project
  • Custom orders: I think right now I have 4-5 customs on my list & am working through another one right now...
  • Instagram Swaps - 2 of them, "NanaCompany Inspired" and "2016 Hexie Swap".
  • And a handful of personal projects...

I think that's that for today! I should run and get my day started seeing as I'm still sitting here sipping coffee in my pj's! Have a wonderful day!
