A trip to Michael's for a new Planner!
Well that's a first... And misc. other things...

My "Minimalist" Happy Planner!

***

So I have to say that I am absolutely loving my new Happy Planner! I've been watching the odd YouTube video with different tips, ideas & hacks and have learned a few new tricks! I am planning on keeping mine fairly "clean & streamlined" as it appears that some use them more as sticker books than planners, but I need white space and room in mine, you know, for writing. Plans. Due Dates. To do lists. All that stuff that I purchased it for... Mine won't be 98% covered in stickers, but will have lists and notes in it cause I actually need that room!

I have cancelled most of the items that I had ordered on Amazon and instead will be making my own more affordable "add-ons" and will be using the stickers sparsely so they last me for a long time! Plus, I'm really not into the "sticker sneeze" look and much prefer the clean look.

This sticker spoke to me... "Save more, Do more". Perfection I think!! And I placed it on Thursday as that's the weekday I begin our new budget each week. Tonight I'll actually be rewriting our *ENTIRE* budget as I cannot control our Hydro bills with all the increases. We have another increase coming in November, then another increase in January from what I've read. My bill for the last month for Hydro & water was $440.00. ***FAINT*** It's absolutely obscene. I do laundry after 7pm in cold water, I use my dishwasher after 7pm, when we use the dryer it's on the "low" setting and we hang a lot of our clothing up, tv is off most of the day until evening, lights are off all day until night falls... I really don't know what else to do in order to get our bill down. Going Amish is beginning to look more & more appealing!!

One of the hacks that I learned on YouTube is instead of purchasing the punch is to use a regular single hole punch (which I already own) and use the main pages as a template to hole punch, then simply cut slits on each hole. It works to perfection as you can see! The "Happy Planner" punch was $60.00 at Michaels (OUCH!!) so I left it there for someone else to take home and will continue using my single hole punch instead!

Can you see the holes in this?? These are the ones I made with my own single hole punch, however, i'm thinking that I should have probably used a dark background for this photo.. But once you hole punch your sheets, you simple cut little "gaps" in the center each hole punch. I tried just a "slit" and it didn't work, but once I took out small cuts, it worked to perfection!!

Also, instead of purchasing the "Home" planner add on which comes with an "odd" amount of planning sheets, I'm making my own "home set". Firstly I took my little $6.00 budget book that I purchased not too long ago and pulled out the staples, then I cut the sheets in half and put in the holes to fit my planner. Now I can track our spending throughout the week, with a single sheet per week. Simple & easy and I think much better having this in the centre of each week instead in a different book or a different section of the planner.

I also found a small notebook I had on hand and tore out pages for my weekly "budget crunching" page where I figure out where we're sitting each week, check on our savings, figure out how much money we have for the weekly budget, see what bills are coming up, etc... I prefer to have these each week as I tend to check my numbers daily.

As for the "housework" part of the "Home" planner kit you can purchase, I tend to do different housework chores from day to day. I don't have just "one" cleaning day, so wouldn't really use those sheets much. Today we cleaned out the fridge, cleaned the kitchen, worked on laundry, tidied the living room, and so on... Different chores need my attention on different days and I'd prefer not to have just one day where I'm cleaning the house from morning till night... LOL!!!

There were also a couple of cute "skinny" notepads that I had ordered but cancelled as I'm going to check the dollar store for these. I figure it's a great way to keep a running "to buy" list in my planner for each week. Grocery items, etc... I'm also hoping to score some number stickers & thin plastic type cutting boards that I've seen people turn into dividers for the Happy Planner. I would love to make one for my sewing/customs pages to keep that list separate from the rest and easy to find and another for "today", which you'd keep in the current week you're using to make it easy to find today's list!

My current week is pretty messy and random, but now that I'm going through the week I think I know the layout I want for my week to week. I have added a bottom line for my daily meal plan (I only plan dinner) and think I'm going to use the very bottom to track any extra income I bring in. I also track my water drinking as I've been aiming for 8 glasses a day and checking them off from day to day helps me reach my 8 glass goal every day!

And I think that's about it for now! I am enjoying it and love that there's so much room in it for me! I'll update again in a week I think with how it's going and any other 'hacks' I find & try!

I'll be back tomorrow with some fabric goodness and some good things which are coming my way!! Enjoy your night!
