Cape Breton is very *GREEN*
It's down pouring...

Good Morning!

I was up bright & early this morning with the sound of something downstairs crashing to the floor. It startled me out of bed, but when I went downstairs to investigate I couldn't figure out what it was. Whatever it was, it got the cat fed nice & early anyway! I managed to get just about 6 hours of sleep which adds up to more than what I had the previous 3 nights. Tonight I'm going to aim for 8 hours, and that would just be heavenly!

It's going to be a hot one today, 34c after the humidity which means I have all the windows wide open wide to let the beautiful ocean breeze flow through the house for the day. It's so peaceful & quiet here, I've been up for 2 hours and have just heard the sound of the first car going by. The crows are cawing to each other, seagulls hunting for food and the birds are singing. The sun is streaming in through our huge living room window which makes for a beautiful morning. We get so much natural light in the house here, from every room in every direction. I do love it so much as it feeds my soul.

Miss Mya is still sleeping, Miss Maria is on the computer doing something or other and now that the cat has been fed, she's taking a nap on the couch, soaking in the sunlight.

I'm deciding what I'm going to tackle today. My new queen size headboard, footboard and sideboards are upstairs still sitting on boxes, waiting to be put together. Since the truck is arriving on Thursday I would love to have our bedroom set up and ready for our mattress when it gets here! I'm not sure if I can do that on my own, but I may be able to with the girls. I think I'll probably try this afternoon and if it doesn't get completed on my own, so be it.

I need to run out to the grocery store and Walmart for a few items and am hoping to go earlier in the day before the heat sets in. On my list today...

  • Screws for Maria's bed. We had our neighbor make extra slats to use as extra support on her bed, so we need more screws for the extra slats.
  • Fruits & veggies. I'm about to run out and like to have a nice supply of fresh veggies on hand all the time!
  • WD-40 for the manual lawnmower.
  • Naan & buns for the girls along with a loaf of bread for the freezer. We have a bread bakery just a mere 5 minute walk away (if even that) so I'll stop in there to see what they have on hand!
  • Gravy mix for dinner. Mya would like chicken for dinner, so I'll probably do that again with baby potatoes & veggies.

I think that's about it for today, laundry was done yesterday so I won't have enough for a load today. I want to do blankets but will probably wait until tomorrow for those. Let me tell you, it's really easy to stay on top of laundry when everyone only owns a few outfits each. It's never been so easy to decide what to wear either. Do I want shorts or do I want capris? Do I want t-shirt A or B? Do I need a pullover hoodie or a light zip up hoody? Fast & easy to be sure... I think when I'm unpacking our clothing I'm going to be make sure that everything we keep, we need & want!

Even though we just got rid of half of our belongings, I'm quite willing & ready to get rid of more, especially for the sake of keeping things simple and clean. It has certainly taught me that we don't need so many outfits and so much stuff. Over the past year I've gotten rid of about 5 bags/boxes of my clothes (shameful I know) and when it arrives, if I don't absolutely LOVE it and wear it lots, I'm donating it without a 2nd thought. Same as for the girls clothing. Mya's clothing that she doesn't wear/love/need will go to a friend, Maria's will be donated. I have one pair of shorts with me and one pair of Roots capri pants that I've done just fine with almost the last almost 3 weeks.

I do miss some of my kitchen stuff and definitely *need* some of it again, but I'll be asking myself, can I get rid of some of these mugs? Can we do without a few of these baking pans? Did we bring any small appliances with us that we don't need? I'm already trying to remember what exactly we packed and what I can "leave packed" and donate somewhere around here! I may offer an "incentive" to the girls if they pare down their belongings as well. I haven't thought about that yet, but it would be a good thing, especially for Mya who owns more than all of us combined I think!

I'm not so sure that "variety is the spice of life" anymore. I'm starting to think that simplicity and having "just enough" isn't so bad...
