The last six months have been filled with lots & lots of sewing, but honestly for work only. Nothing simply for *me*. Not that I could really help that, but all the same, I really need & want to get back to being more creative on my own terms.
- Trying new projects,
- Take part in a swap here & there, even
- Host a small swap or two
- Create more gifts
- Try new techniques (embroidery is on my list!)
- Attend craft nights at a local sewing shop
- Host craft nights at my home (still thinking about how to do this!)
- Teach others how to sew
- Make & take classes, etc...
During this time I've realized that pattern writing is probably definitely not for me. I'm a little torn here as I know people love my patterns, but to be brutally honest it's *REALLY* hard to see that sooo many people now are doing the exact same thing as I am. Same style, same fabrics, same zipper charms and tassels, etc... people sell them left, right & centre, which I'm 100% good with, but most don't even share that it's my pattern, ever. People teach classes with my patterns without asking permission, or buying extra copies of my pattern, so on and so forth. I know that's just the way it goes, but now that I've "been there, done that", I understand the 'other side of the coin'.
I think I had a more distinct look before, more unique, but now with my patterns available, everywhere I look I see "my items" in my style, with my special touches, which just aren't unique anymore because everyone is doing the same thing. *sigh*
My main reason for not writing more patterns at this current time is that I want my *own* look book again, I don't want to be a "dime in a dozen" anymore. I feel like I've lost my uniqueness and personal style.
People always tell me they can tell my items from the rest because of the quality & workmanship of my creations, but it's not the same. Not at all.
So while I know this is going to dissapoint people, I think in the end I'm probably done with making patterns. I love to design new items and a LOT of work goes into that, and for that reason, I'm going to work on rebuilding my style and trying to have more unique items in my sewing collection that I've created myself for myself & for my customers.
I'm quite excited to get my sewing room up & running and be creative again! I do have a list of items that I need to accomplish before I do my "own thing", but that's ok.
Today I'm going to paint my sewing room which is quite exciting!! I've never had a sewing room done exactly to my liking! I have a few projects in mind for my sewing room which will take time, but I'm ok with that. First up though, is definitely painting. I cannot be creative & happy in a dark & matte muddy plummy sewing room. *shudder*
I need bright & pretty colours... light & happiness!!
I have a stack of UFO's (Unfinished objects) *like the pretty little hexie panel above, which need finished as well. It would be nice to finish these little projects off once & for all as well!
Well the girls just woke up (Mya had a sleepover) & will be hungry so I should cut this off here and get some food in their bellies!
Enjoy your day!!
