‘Grandma’ Oct.21,1921 - Nov.29,2018.
My November was devoted to helping to care for my grandmother (in law). I spent most of my days keeping her company. We laughed together, we read together, we played yatzee together, I helped her eat, I helped her get ready for bed, I washed her hair, I combed her hair, I trimmed her nails, I held her hand, we reminisced together, and in the end, we cried together. Her last words to me were, “I love you”, and for that I am blessed. And I know she did because she loved with every bit of her heart & soul. I am eternally grateful that I was able to spend my time with her, so much precious time, which at the same time will never be “enough”.
Tomorrow I say my final goodbye to this amazing woman who easily accepted and loved me from the moment she met me, 26 years ago. She has always supported and encouraged me in everything I did, she helped me raise my children, she taught me so many life skills that i’ll carry with me throughout the rest of my life. She showed compassion and grace to everyone she met. There will never be another woman in my life like her...
We have lost our matriarch and there will forever be an emptiness in our hearts that only she can fill.
I love you, Grandma. xox
